Denture Care

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, dentures are a sure way to boost self-esteem. But this isn’t the only factor that can be replenished. A restored smile also results in improved speech, more ease while eating, and supported facial muscles. Whether you’re missing all of your teeth or just a few here and there, full, or partial dentures are a spectacular option for bettering your overall health and appearance.

Conventional vs. Immediate Dentures

Dentures can either be conventional or immediate depending on when they’re made and placed in your mouth. Conventional dentures are created and inserted after remaining teeth have been removed and your tissues have completely healed. This can take several months.

Alternatively, immediate dentures are inserted right after teeth removal. To make this possible, Dr. Kostides makes a mold of the mouth during a preliminary visit. The main advantage of immediate dentures is that the patient doesn’t have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, bones and gums can shrink while the mouth is healing, and this could require subsequent adjustments to your dentures.

Also, Dr. Kostides may fit you with an overdentures, which provides stability and support, if he determines that you’re a good candidate.

Full Dentures

Dr. Kostides also offers dental implants as a long-lasting solution to missing teeth. By securing dentures to dental implants, you can enjoy the natural feel and aesthetic of synthetic teeth that are fixed in the mouth.

Although it's common to experience some awkwardness and soreness when your implants are first secured, your cheek muscles and tongue grow accustomed to them over time. Dr. Kostides is on hand to provide advice, guidance and ensure that your healing process is as quick and natural as possible.

Dentures still require consistent care on behalf of the patient. By practicing healthy hygiene, brushing thoroughly and regularly, and eating a balanced diet, you set yourself up for ongoing oral health.
